8th Grade Digital Art: Zines

What is a Zine?
Designing your own zine

What will you make your zine about?
Possible topics: Music, Art, Poetry, a Political or Social issue (the environment, spirituality, education), Protest, Sports, Fashion, etc.
Complete the planning worksheet before you begin.

Creating a zine
We will create our 'zines using Adobe InDesign. Follow these steps.
1. Open Adobe InDesign
2. Create a New Document. Make it 8 pages. Leave "Facing pages" checked. Change the size to 5.5 inches wide by 8.25 inches high. Leave the orientation as "Portrait." Leave the columns and margins as they are for now.
3. Save the file as YourLastName Zine.indd
4. Open the "Pages" window so you can control what page you are on.
5. Begin designing your zine. Page 1 will be your cover. Try different fonts and page layouts. These will be printed in black and white. Use contrast, balance, pattern, unity, and repetition to make it look interesting.
* You can scan in original artwork, import art from Photoshop or Illustrator, or add photographs. To add artwork, you must "place" it (go to File > Place). To type, use the "T" tool. InDesign is very similar to Adobe Illustrator (which you used for your Op Art designs).
