8th Grade Digital Arts: Video Poem

For this project your will be creating a video poem using Windows Movie Maker. Use this blog post to complete your research and planning packets. Ms. Vermeer will show you examples.

1. Go to the Scholastic Word Wizard and write the definitions for the following words:

storyboard:
transition:
stanza:
pace:

Try using images that are figurative, rather than literal. When we designed concert posters we looked up these words. Please write down the difference between figurative and literal.


2. Find a poem (or write your own original poem!). Go to the Poetry Foundation and pick a poem. It must be short. Try for about 100 words or less. Also, make sure it is one you really like.

2. Storyboard. Plan out your video on the worksheet. Write down what words will be on the screen at the same time (break the poem up into stanzas), and what kind of picture will go with it. Use all 15 frames. If your poem is very short, there does not have to be text on every frame, or the text might stretch out over a few frames.


3. Find or make your pictures. You will use either copyright free photos or your own original art work. (You could try drawing in Photoshop or Illustrator!)

4. Put it all together in Windows Movie Maker. You will have to import your pictures and type the captions. Choose transition effects. Choose animation effects for your type. Change the fonts and colors.

5. Think about the pace of your movie. Try using a variety of shots: close-ups, far away, color, black and white. You should still make sure your images relate to each other. They should look like they belong together.

If you have time, you can try adding sound or music.
